Summertime Blues April 4th
Well summer is off to a shitty start in my little world with this weather and the Cardinals getting killed by the Mets (aka Pond Scum) the first three games of the season. Oh well, I am sure the weather is bound to warm up and the Cardinals will begin playing like the champions that they are:-) We have some pretty cool things happening at the bars and with the Blues Society this month. The Blues Society of Omaha is putting on its first Blues Cruise of the year on Sunday, April 29th. Chubby Carrier and The Bayou Swamp Band from Louisiana is headlining the Blues Society of Omaha's (www.OmahaBlues.com) Spring Blues Cruise aboard the Triple Decker River City Star http://www.rivercitystar.com/
Boarding begins at 2:30pm and we cruise 3pm-6pm. Chubby will play (2) 75 minute sets on the bottom deck. Blue House, a very popular local horn band, will play on the middle deck. A cash bar and fast food is available for purchase on-board. Everyone must be at least 21 years old. There is an after-party at SHAG, www.shagavodkabar.com, featuring one of my favorites, John Nemeth http://johnnemethblues.com/. Your cruise ticket grants you free admission. This TH at 5:30pm at Murphy's, Tad Robinson (www.TadRobinson.com) makes his Omaha debut. "Hailing from Indy, Robinson places near the top of the list of the finest living singers of soul blues." -Downbeat Magazine Following Robinson will be "A Night of Led Zeppelin", a live tribute to the legends of ROCK by some of Omaha's top players. Should be great. Cover is just $8 for Robinson and $5 for the Zep Tribute, with ladies getting in free after 8pm. Blue Martian Tribe opens for Jazzwholes on Easter at Murphy's. You can catch their Jammy sound at http://www.myspace.com/bluemartiantribe. Cover just $5. We are very excited to present Patrice Pike at Murphy's on Saturday, April 14th at 8pm (cover charge just $8): Austin recording artist Patrice Pike, fresh from her multi-category win ( Musician of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rock Band, Best Female Vocalist and Induction in the Music Hall of Fame) at this year's Austin Music Awards SXSW 2007; and a standout tour in New Zealand in support of her third full solo release, “Unraveling” tours Central and Mid-Western US immediately after SXSW. The album, released by her own new label TapeSlap Records and distributed by Redeye USA, showcases Pike’s well established substance as a songwriter and dynamic versatility as a performer. In 2006 Patrice Pike finished as a Top 7 finalist in the prime time television show Rock Star which introduced her to a worldwide television audience (10 million national viewers weekly). Pike has long enjoyed a loyal following extending back to her days as the front woman for the band Sister 7. Propelled by Pike’s soaring vocals and highly literate songwriting, Sister 7 spent the ’90s flirting with rock stardom. The quartet charted a couple of Billboard hits and toured with the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, John Fogerty, and the Lilith Fair (featuring Sarah McLachlan and Natalie Merchant). Mark your calendar for 4/20. As you would expect, we are going to have big happenings at Murphy's and something really wild at The Lift. Stay tuned. That's all for now. Thanks for checking in. I'm off to have a cold one at Murphy's:-) Terry O
Welcome to my Blog Apr.1st
I'll be using the blog to keep everyone updated on what's happenin' at our bars. Our events, specials, the bar scene in Omaha, and maybe a few deep thoughts....but don't count on it. :-) 4.20 will be a big day at The Lift and at Murphy's. Rhythm Collective Reggae will be the headliner for our annual 4.20 celebration @ Murphy's. At The Lift, we'll have an all-day event; Blue Martian Tribe is one of the cool jam bands on the bill. Murphy's and The Lift are within two blocks of each other; hope to see you at both bars that day. Thanks for checking us out, Terry O'Halloran
